PASTOR STEVE JOINS THE ARC
A healthy church begins with healthy church leaders.
It can be easy to assume someone serving “in ministry” has things all together, but common-sense dictates that’s not always the case. Church leaders are human, which means they are susceptible to the same challenges and disappointments we all experience.
For decades, it’s been presumed that a pastor’s commitment to the church would easily supersede any grievances regarding meager wages, exhausting hours, or a barrage of heavy conflicts. While Northgate remains relatively unscathed by these kinds of troubles, we recognize that for the church-at-large, times are tough. Pastors are joining “the great resignation” at alarming rates.
According to Barna, about 38 percent of Protestant senior pastors surveyed have considered leaving ministry over the past year. Among pastors under age 45, that number rose to 46 percent.
Crazy.
So, what can we do?
How can we bolster the church and support those in ministry?
The good news:
There are amazing organizations out there that exist for this very reason, to grow healthy leaders who create healthy church cultures.
The even better news:
Pastor Steve has been invited to lead one such organization!
The Alliance of Renewal Churches, AKA “The ARC”, is a small leadership network of evangelical, Spirit-filled churches that is designed with the care and concern of those church’s leaders in mind. They exist to support pastors and other ministry workers with leader care, coaching, community, worship and development.
Northgate’s staff are direct beneficiaries of this organization and regularly attend “Life Together” days so they can be encouraged and equipped to take on the rigors of ministry with confidence and joy.
Starting this September, Steve will be stepping in to serve as their Director.

Now, to clarify -- STEVE IS NOT LEAVING!
Not a chance.
Northgate is Steve’s home and he couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. He’ll be around just as much, teaching just as often, and sneaking song lyrics into his messages just as he always has (have you ever noticed that he does this? What can we say--the guy just loves to sing).
No, this exciting new opportunity will be in addition to his Northgate gig. He’s leaning on other leaders, making room in his schedule, and putting in “extra” because he believes that the work is worth it for Jesus. In fact, he’s already been making the effort in an unofficial capacity for quite some time, but now he’s been offered a formal seat at the table.
We’d be remiss not to point out that though this is a minuscule sacrifice for Northgate, we may experience some significant benefits!
Benefits for Northgate:
It expands our influence.
Not to sound braggadocios, but we think we’ve got a pretty good thing going at Northgate. People are finding purpose and lives are being transformed. It’s time for us to increase our footprint and share what we have, and this is a unique, untapped platform for us to do it.
It brings us resources.
Through this network, we’re closer and comfier with tons of talented ministry partners, along with their combined knowledge, assets, and supplies. Sharing is caring and this is a group that lives to serve, so we’re among very good friends who’ll help Northgate in any way they can.
It serves our mission.
Ultimately, each one of us,
you included, are here because we have a passion to help people become who God purposed them to be. We can’t think of a better way to serve this mission than to invest in leaders who bring the love of Christ back to their communities. We’re obnoxiously optimistic about the health of His church and its leaders, and we’re excited to be a part this!
Bless and congratulate Steve as he takes on this exciting new role and give him a word of encouragement, will you? With his cup full, he’ll share that love with these other grateful ministry leaders who’ll now be under his care.
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
