BIG NEWS: SUMMER STAFF CHANGES
This transition has been a long time coming because this guy is beyond ready to lead at a greater capacity, eager for the next challenge, and prepared to do big things in Jesus’ name. We’re proud of the ways that he has helped to shape our church culture, craft our teaching style, and influence so many young lives in our midst. Its for those reasons and more that we know he’s ready to help another church community who needs him.
But it’s not quite farewell for Pastor Dan and his wife, Shatera, just yet. Hold on to your ‘goodbyes’ for now while he continues his interviews and seeks God’s plan over the next several weeks. However, we are using this time to tell him how intensely thankful we are for his many contributions over the years-- a sentiment we hope you’ll share as he addresses the congregation at each of our services this weekend, expressing his love for this church community and revealing what God has laid on his heart.
When asked about his upcoming departure he said, “We are incredibly thankful for our time at Northgate. Believe me when I say that, when the time comes for our transition, we will be very sad to leave. We are truly indebted to all of you. It has been an incredible blessing to do ministry here the last 6 years. Although we are sad to leave, we know that God is in this, and we are excited for His next calling for our family. Your prayers are welcome and appreciated!"
Though we will miss their weekly presence greatly, we know that they’ll be nearby and remain strong friends & supporters of Northgate’s ministry. We’re excited to see where the Thorson family lands and the eternal kingdom impact that will result from this new venture.
As if that wasn’t big enough news -- please pass the Kleenex -- we’re thrilled to announce that Dan Braaten is now stepping up as our new Youth Director starting July 1st!
A clear and natural choice for this role, you’ve likely seen Dan, and his amazing wife, Emma, lead in our worship band together, share their powerful personal testimonies, and play a critical role in youth ministry over the last few years. In addition to many years of service to Teen Challenge, they’ve been deeply involved in Due North as beloved leaders to our middle school and high school students.
When sharing his enthusiasm for this next chapter, he noted, "God has given us such a loving family and a supportive community here at Northgate that He knew we needed. We are so grateful that God has called us to come alongside of our youth as He provides them with identity and purpose."
Not only is he a super fun youth leader, a great singer, and guitar player, but Dan is also a doting father, wonderful husband, and supportive friend. He is the kind of guy you call when you need someone to listen and pray, or just make you laugh. Because of his intense love for Christ, and the ways that he has already helped cultivate our Youth Ministry, we can’t wait to see how Due North thrives under his leadership.
If you see either of "the Dans" around campus these next few weekends, be sure to congratulate them both with a thank you, high five, or by sharing a fun memory.
Northgate is so blessed by these two brothers in Christ and we believe the best is yet to come!
