SERVING SPOTLIGHT - MEET MICHAEL & JENNIFER
Tell us a little bit about yourselves!
M: I grew up in Maple Grove and bought a house in New Hope 7 years ago. I've worked at my family restaurant for 19 years and love everything about it. I like to play golf (especially on vacation in California), work, maintain my aquariums and have nerdy hobbies such as cards and video games.
J: I’m a mom who loves funny memes and I currently live in Coon Rapids. Michael and I are dating, and we also work together at his family business. I’m passionate about recovery and the freedom we can find in Christ.
What are a few of your favorite things?
M: I will eat just about anything Italian. Was never interested in sports but love music of all genres, from the 20’s to now. My dad owned a movie star when I was growing up so I've seen thousands and thousands of different movies.
J: GOLF! I love to golf.
How did you first hear about Northgate and how long have you been here?
M: An old friend's parents were the people who helped set up Northgate’s big screens. They recommended this church to me when I came to Christ, so Jen and I checked it out and we’ve been here for almost two years.
What teams are you on at Northgate?
J: We lead groups through The Alpha Course and enjoy helping with coffee and greeting on the First Impressions Team Saturday evenings--and then we get pizza, literally every single week, after church. It’s our date night!
Why has it been important for you to join a team at church?
M: I look at it this way-- I get fed from the teaching every weekend, so I take from the church. It's important for me to volunteer so I can give back to the church and help be a part of the whole body.
J: It’s been helpful for me to begin fostering new friendships. When I’m feeling down, serving helps pull me out of isolation and brings me joy.
How has serving at Northgate had an impact on you?
M: It's brought me into relationship with people who I love. I feel that there's something my life has to offer by helping. I mostly just work and come home so serving gives me a greater sense of purpose.
What has been the biggest surprise about serving at our church?
J: That it’s a gradual, yet deeply meaningful way to build friendships. I’d love for lots of people to join our Saturday First Impressions Team so I can get to know more friends this way.
If you could encourage someone else to begin serving, what would you say?
M: That it's a great way to get involved in the body of Christ and share ownership of our church community. Come and see for yourself! It’s been really good for me.
